If you are
looking for value, these chairs will provide several centuries of
comfortable service. In the spirit of 18th century chairmakers,
David forms spindles and bows of handsplit oak or ash for resilient
strength. Hand-turned legs enter the seat with tapered joints. (The
chair will tighten with use!) The seat of pine or elm is deeply
saddled with adze and inshave. At assembly time, deliberate tension
is added to further strengthen the chair.
You may wish
to choose a traditional milk paint finish, a hand-rubbed stain,
or polished shellac.
